What causes patellofemoral pain syndrome?
Patellofemoral pain syndrome sometimes called “Runner’s Knee” describes knee pain in and around the kneecap (patella) as a result of the kneecap rubbing on the thigh bone (femur bone) underneath due to either overuse, trauma or weak quad muscles.
Patellofemoral pain syndrome symptoms
Patellofemoral pain syndrome symptoms are: Pain at front of knee around the kneecap which may worsen when sitting for a long time, walking up and down stairs or squatting; possible knee swelling, knee sore to touch, and sometimes a cracking in knee sound on bending the knee. Patellofemoral pain syndrome can be associated with Chondromalacia patellae.
Patellofemoral pain syndrome treatment
Your physiotherapist will physically assess and test painful movements and muscle strength, assess biomechanics, use hand on physiotherapy, shockwave therapy, dry needling, and taping. Provide and advise exercises for patellofemoral pain syndrome via our exercise prescription software Salaso. Prescribe orthotics, knee supports, patellar tape, foam roller and resistance bands.
