Screening for Injury Prevention

The most important aspect of sports physiotherapy is injury prevention. At Imokilly Physiotherapy and Sports Injury Clinic our Chartered physiotherapists are able to provide a comprehensive movement screen which will identify any functional issues or weaknesses. This includes taking a history of your activities, previous injuries and concerns; followed by a full biomechanical assessment to identify any of the following risk factors

  • Muscle Imbalances
  • Joint Hypermobility (increased flexibility)
  • Core Muscle Weakness
  • Poor Sporting Technique e.g. tennis serves
  • Poor Muscle Flexibility
  • Inadequate Warmup
  • Previous Injury
  • Flat Feet
  • Poor Footwear

We will then formulate a management plan to address the specific findings. Often this will include an exercise programme to address muscle imbalances, strengthen core muscles and stabilise joints. You may also be prescribed orthotics to assist with foot mechanics during activity (see Orthotic Prescription). A suitable warm-up may also be provided if required.
Individual athletes or squads can access this screening service so any problems have the least likelihood of negatively impacting your training time or sporting performance.

All the Chartered physiotherapists at Imokilly Physiotherapy and Sports Injury Clinic are skilled and experienced in injury prevention and are comfortable working alongside your trainer, coach or manager to incorporate your corrective programme into your training, working together to keep you fit.

Client Testimonials

Having been dogged with injury I decided to have a full prehab/FMS screen with Colette at Imokilly Physiotherapy and Sports Injury Clinic. My starting score was 12/21 which placed me in a high risk injury bracket but by doing my corrective exercises, I not only played through the whole season un-injured but I also got my score up to 17/21 by the end.

- T.B, Killeagh GAA

I had spent a significant amount of money elsewhere on unwearable orthotics, before coming to Imokilly Physiotherapy Clinic. The orthotics I got here are by far the most comfortable to wear, and I wouldn't put a pair of shoes on without them!

- MB, Ladysbridge

Having had a long long history of back-pain which was then managed surgically with a dynamic fusion I was nervous about commencing any exercise. My neurosurgeon recommended that I attend a physiotherapist-led clinical Pilates class and I was lucky to find Sarah. Her entire approach is aimed at individualised rehabilitation, namely the individual assessment, tailored exercise programmes, small classes and follow-up emails. The standard of Pilates service is far superior to a fitness-based drop in class, and hence ideal for those with injuries.

Chronic Achilles tendinopathy was limiting my ability to progress my marathon training and I knew that I had to tackle it properly to allow it to heal. Although it was frustrating to step back from training, I am now running painfree and hoping for a marathon PB
