Garvey MSc MISCP
Clinical Principal, Senior Lead Chartered Physiotherapist
With over 20 years’ experience as a Chartered Physiotherapist, Colette has worked solely in the area of musculoskeletal physiotherapy in private practice for the last 17 years. She established Imokilly Physiotherapy and Sports Injury Clinic in 2005 and has strived to develop and grow it since.
Her special interests are musculoskeletal physiotherapy and the management of sports injuries, including the correction of biomechanics and movement patterns in sport; management of the sporting adolescent within the long-term athlete development model; and the use of strength and conditioning in rehabilitation. She is a qualified Pilates instructor and licenced to practice acupuncture/dry needling. She also has a role within the occupational health provision of a number of local manufacturing companies in both the management of musculoskeletal injuries and proactive, injury prevention strategies.
Sports injuries form a large part of Colette’s clinic caseload. She has previously provided physiotherapy to Munster Rugby Development squad, Ireland A’s Ladies Rugby and the Ireland Mens Hockey Squad. Her current physiotherapy responsibilities are Midleton Rugby Club, Fr. O’Neills GAA and several elite athletes. Her recent career highlights are being involved in the success of the Fr O’Neills team from U21 county champions (2018) to the Intermediate Hurling All Ireland Final in January 2020, many of whom she had been working with since they were U14s. She also had the pleasure of treating Alistair Brownlee (Olympian triathlete) when he was here to compete in, and win, the inaugural Ironman Cork (2019).
Following undertaking a Masters in Advanced Physiotherapy (UCD) Colette continues to have a passion for learning and continued professional development. She has responsibilities for lecturing peers and mentoring undergraduate and new graduate physiotherapists (the clinic has recently taken students from Fontys University (Eindhoven), TCD, UCC). She is also responsible for service development to improve the patient experience and maintain clinic competencies and compliance.
Colette’s personal interests involve running, swimming and triathlon to keep fit, along with taxiing her kids around to training sessions!
