Kelsi McGrath MISCP
Senior Chartered Physiotherapist
Kelsi is a Chartered Physiotherapist who graduated with a Bachelor of Physiotherapy (Honours), awarded with distinction, from the University of Pretoria, South Africa, in 2017. She brings over nine years of experience working across both public and private healthcare settings in South Africa before joining Galway City Physiotherapy in 2023.
Throughout her career, Kelsi has gained extensive experience treating a wide range of musculoskeletal conditions, acute and chronic respiratory conditions, and neurological disorders. Early in her career, she worked alongside a neurologist and multidisciplinary stroke team, specialising in the early rehabilitation of stroke patients, long-term goal setting, and supporting patients in regaining independence and returning to everyday life.
Alongside her neurological work, Kelsi developed a strong interest in sports physiotherapy while treating musculoskeletal injuries. As lead physiotherapist for a club rugby team, she discovered her passion for helping athletes recover from injury and return to peak performance. She continued her work with club rugby in Ireland, working with Galwegians’ Womens Rugby and the Clovers Celtic Challenge team.
Kelsi went on to establish and run her own successful private physiotherapy practice in South Africa, where she treated a diverse range of patients with musculoskeletal conditions. In addition to her clinical practice, Kelsi taught Pilates classes with a focus on back and neck rehabilitation, mobility and flexibility, bone health, and strength and conditioning. She has a particular interest in active recovery and helping people return confidently to the activities that matter most to them.
Her treatment approach combines hands-on therapy with evidence-based rehabilitation, drawing on additional training in Shockwave, Dry Needling, Hydrotherapy, and Manual Therapy. Kelsi believes that every patient is unique and takes an individualised, holistic approach to assessment and treatment. She places a strong emphasis on education, empowering patients to understand their diagnosis and the factors contributing to their pain, as she believes this knowledge plays an important role in recovery and long-term wellbeing.
Special Interests
Having competed in sport herself at club, district, and provincial levels, Kelsi understands both the physical and mental challenges of injury and rehabilitation. She currently enjoys playing touch rugby in Ireland and, outside of work, loves spending time outdoors hiking, running, and travelling.
